Helper

The Helper provides assistance to technicians in building special automated machinery.

Your Role

  • Learns industrial mathematics, print reading, and machining theory related to machine building.

  • Learns basic and advanced theory related to machine building.

  • Under the guidance and direction of an experienced Technician, learns skills related to machine building.

  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition, supporting 5S/6S logic.

  • Learns to put weldments together.

  • Learns basics of safety, sawing, drilling, filing, welding, materials and machine speeds and feeds.

  • Learns safe operation of, receives practical experience on, and specifies materials for: Allen, and Radial drills.

  • Receives practical experience in inspecting, learns to read tape measure, calipers and micrometers.

  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.

  • Smooths flat and contoured surfaces, using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders; fits and assembles parts together into assemblies and mechanisms, using hand tools.

  • Lifts machined parts manually or using hoist and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable, using devices, such as V-blocks, and angle plates.

  • Accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to daily tasks from leadership.

  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Additional (Non-Essential) Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety requirements relating to the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.

  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed to support projects and customer needs.

  • Must be willing to work alternate shifts as needed to support projects and customer needs.

  • Demonstrates financial acumen appropriate for this position.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Two years general experience in a machine shop setting, vocational/technical school or trade school.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to obtain a forklift and arial lift certification.

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Frequently push, pull, reach, stoop, bend at the waist, kneel, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, or crawl.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Near visual acuity for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.

  • Must be able to tolerate elevated noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, breathing fumes, dust, and mist and skin exposures to oils and cutting fluids.
