Controls Technician
The Controls Technician will assist in the assembly, wiring, and installation of control systems for industrial machinery and automation projects. The Controls Technician will work closely with the Manufacturing Engineer, Controls Engineer, and other Technicians to build electrical control panels, install and wire machine field components, and plumb pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Your Role
Assemble, wire, and install electrical control panels and systems based on schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
Perform electrical and mechanical assembly of control systems, including mounting components/devices, wiring, labeling, and installing small and big control panels. Enclosures.
Perform point-to-point wiring, cable management, and terminations in control panels and junction boxes.
Conduct functional testing and troubleshooting of control panels and systems to ensure proper operation before deployment
Maintain accurate records of the work performed, including updates to the wiring diagram and quality control documents.
Assist in the commissioning and installation of control systems at DTE and at the customer site.
Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance regarding daily tasks.
Basic knowledge of industrial mathematics, print reading, wiring, pneumatics, hydraulics and machining theory related to projects.
Applies basic and advanced theory related to assembly, controls and machining.
Alignment and support of each of DT Engineering’s Seven guiding principles.
Responsible for the layout, wiring, testing, and occasional design of low and high-voltage electrical panels that may include PLCs, machine controllers, motion controllers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other components commonly found in electrical control systems.
Panel specification and panel layout design.
Under the guidance and direction of experienced personnel, learn skills related to manufacturing and controls.
Works from blueprints, drawings, schematics, diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
Learn the safe operation of, and receive practical experience on drills, manual lathes, mills, overhead cranes, hand tools, pipe bending equipment, tacking/welding, material specs, and coatings.
Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for drilling/machining and electrical layouts.
Works with the manufacturing team to debug equipment.
Communicate with co-workers and leaders to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Endeavors to achieve assembly/control time standards on all routings.
Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations. Supports and maintains sound housekeeping standards aligned with 5S applications.
Comply with the entire Quality Assurance (Q/A) manual to ensure shipping of exclusive high-quality products.
Travel to the customer site to assist in installation, troubleshooting, and machine set-up.

Your Qualifications
3+ years of experience in electrical assembly, control panel building, and machine wiring and plumbing of industrial automated machines.
An associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field is not a requirement but will be an asset for this position and will be given preference and special consideration.
Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, control systems, and panel assembly practices.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
Awareness of electrical safety standards and best practices (e.g. OSHA, NEC)
Basic/Advanced understanding of Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing (GD&T).
Familiarity with tools and equipment used for electrical assembly and plumbing systems, such as multimeters, wire strippers, crimpers, power drills, and pipe benders.
Good communication skills for collaborating with engineers and project managers.
